Generation Europe:
Regional Youth Conference, Zagreb, May 11th 2007
Under the auspices of DG Enlargement, a gathering of experts, political figures and students met to debate, exchange ideas and share thoughts under the banner ‘Generation Europe’ with a focus specifically on Southeast Europe.
With a chance to make their voices heard, ask questions and discuss a range of issues, students from all over Southeast Europe took the opportunity to meet each other, debate, take part in moderated workshops and find out about new scholarships.
Speakers and moderators included the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Dr Olli Rehn, Croatian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ms Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, as well as the Special Coordinator of the Stability Pact, Dr Erhard Busek.
Hosted by the Faculty of Law at the University of Zagreb, the event’s theme was “Coming to terms with the past on the road to European integration”, at which the CDRSEE and the Joint History Project were highlighted as a project contributing to this theme. Stating the importance of history and the significance of reconciliation as a central part of European integration, Dr Olli Rehn mentioned the Joint History Project and commended its work so far.
In addition, the work of the JHP was echoed and supported by the presence of representatives of similar projects: Professor Pingel, Representative of the Franco-German Schoolbook (history) project, Professor Borodziej – Representative of the Polish-German history schoolbook project.
The Director of the CDRSEE, Nenad Sebek participated as a panel member, as well as CDRSEE Board Member, Dr Dusan Reljic.
