The Center was invited to participate by the ERSTE Foundation to the conference The Future of Social Change 1989 – 2009: Visions and Perspectives after 20 Years of Transition, which took place between 24 and 26 June 2009 in Bucharest, Romania. The conference aimed at marking the 20 year anniversary of the fall of Communism with a look back at the developments of the last 20 years in order to assess and address challenges ahead.
The opening speech was given by the President of Romania, Mr. Băsescu, and the conference counted amongst its participants eminent international experts, researchers and civil society representatives, allowing for a constructive set of panels and discussions to take place. The conference was followed by the ERSTE foundation Award for Social Integration 2009 Ceremony, which successfully provided opportunities for building up a network of organisations for collaboration across geographical and cultural borders. The Award Ceremony recognised 23 outstanding projects of organisations from Central and South Eastern European Countries whose work is oriented towards social change and creating a society with equal chances and opportunities for all.
