The second cycle of Training Activities for history teachers in Serbia

02-04 July 2010

The second cycle of Training Activities for history teachers in Serbia was kicked off during the first weekend of July with an up-skilling workshop for teacher trainers. The event was also attended by representatives of the Serbian Ministry for Education and four more workshops will take place in autumn 2010, targeted at further enhancing the skills of history teachers in multi-perspective modern teaching methodology all over Serbia.

The training activity started with Prof. Dr. Christina Koulouri giving an inspiring speech on latest developments in history education in Southeast Europe pointing to the need for new methodologies which will make history lessons more attractive and relevant for students.

60 history teachers from all over Serbia attended the opening event and were also warmly welcomed by Klaus Kapper from the Austrian Development Agency.

Main purpose of the event, however, was the up-skilling of 24 teacher trainers in the use of the multi perspective history teaching materials developed by the CDRSEE. The feedback received from participants so far was overwhelmingly positive, especially with regard to the newly launched manual and the interactive group work on participative teaching methods.

Serbia is the first country where a second edition of the four history books will be launched. Since 2006 the network of history teachers using the CDRSEE’s Alternative History Educational Material is continuously growing and attracting more supporters in Serbia as well as all over Southeast Europe.
